Gainsboro History Walk

Overview: Hill Studio worked with neighborhood residents and a committee to develop concept and design plans for a history walk that included interpretive panels for this significant minority neighborhood in Roanoke, Virginia. The Gainesborough Neighborhood was the City's first platted neighborhood (1835). As the area grew over the years, the mixed race community became recognized regionally and nationally for its prominent African-American citizens and their contributions to business, social and civic life. Hill Studio provided both volunteer and professional time to the project for concept planning, grant solicitation, design of interpretive panels at a public plaza, and walking tour and brochure.
