Housing Needs Assessment
Hill Studio is working with the Floyd County EDA to assess housing needs and wants for local residents, followed by developing three feasible solutions on three different sites in or around the town of Floyd. This project is focused on the entire Floyd County community by engaging residents on their housing needs and preferences, shaping this feedback into concepts for review, and ultimately supporting feasible housing or mixed-use projects.
To understand as many perspectives on housing need and demand as possible, and tap into expertise in the community itself, we hosted multiple focus groups and formed two committees of community stakeholders to help guide the process. We then developed concepts for each of the sites under consideration: a small downtown historical rebab project, a pocket community of cottages placed on a 15-acre property, and a site plan for a large ~140 acre property.
On October 6, 2020, our team shared our preliminary concepts with invited guests (a mix of about 40 community leaders, focus group participants, and committee members).
